QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION

Graduate in any stream (B.A / B.SC. /B.Com) may join the Course. Students having science background with Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Science will be given preference in admission.

COURSE DURATION

The PGDCA Course is a full-time post Graduate Programme spread over one academic year consisting of two semesters

AWARD OF DEGREE

On successful completion of the Programme , the  students will be awarded the post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA) of Patna  University.

COURSE CURRICULUM

The course curriculum is designed to provide the students a solid conceptual foundation and an extensive focus on applications of these concepts in practical situations.

STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE

A student of the Course will be examined in ten papers (8 Theory and 2 practical papers). Each paper shall carry 100 marks. The distribution of marks is as follows:

1. Theory paper :

Final University Examination:                                                                 60 marks
Internal Assessment:                                                                             40 marks

1.  Practical paper :

Final University Examination:                                                              60 marks
Internal Assessment (Lab Assignment) :                                              40 marks

COURSE FEE

The course fee per annum at present is Rs. 25,000/ - but it is subject to revision from time to time. Fees once paid will not be refunded. If a student leaves the programme midway he / she shall be liable to pay the course fee for the entire programme (i.e. of one year).
The cost of expenses on educational and recreational trips shall have to be born by the students. It is mandatory for each student to participate in at least one tour during the one year period.
The course fee shall be payable in two installments, one at the time of admission and other in the month of October of the academic year.
The course fee for one year plus security deposit for laboratory and library has to be paid at the time of admission through BANK DRAFT in favour of the Head, department of statistics payable at Patna. Cheque / cash will not be accepted.
The Laboratory and Library caution money will be charged only at the time of admission in the first semester.

THE EXAMINATION

During the study of the programme, a student has to appear in internal examinations (conducted by the Department) as well as in the final examination (conducted by the Patna University). The final University examination carries 60 marks and the internal examination 40 marks in each paper.

1. INTERNAL EXAMINATION

The internal assessment comprises of attendance, marks in Written Test (W) Pop Quiz (Q), Oral presentation (O), assignment (A), Lab assignments, Tour Report, overall behavior and discipline of the stu

A student must have 75% attendance and 45% marks in the sent up test to appear in the final examination. Unless a student fulfills these requirements, he / she will not be allowed to fill the examination form for the Final Univ ersity Examination.

1. FINAL UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION

There will be a University examination at the end of each semester.         
A student will not be permitted to appear in the PGDCA semester – II examination till he / she has passed in the semester – I examination.
                        In order to be declared successful at any of these examinations, the candidates shall have to pass both in theory and internal assessment / practical separately with not less than 45% marks. Holding of examination and publication of results will be in accordance with provision of section 292(2) of the Patna University Act, 1976.

EXAMINATION FEE  

The examination fee at present is Rs.1200/- . Students have to pay the examination fee while submitting the final examination form, usually in the month of September. The examination fee is subject to revision from time to time.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The medium of instruction will be English/ Hindi.

HOW TO GER ADMETTED TO THE COURSE HOW TO APPLY

The applicant will be required to apply in the prescribed application form to the Head/ Course Coordinator, Department of Statistics, Patna University, Patna 800005. The application form and the prospectus can be obtained from the Departmental office on submission of a bank Draft payable to the ‘’Head, Department of statistics, Patna University, Patna’’
On any working day from 10 am to 3 pm as per notification. No additional fee for entrance test will be charged.
                  The cost of Application Form the course is Rs.500/- (Rs.550 /- for postal services along with self addressed envelope)

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for admission, a candidate must have:

• Passed the B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Examination conducted by a university established or incorporated by law or equivalent thereof.
•  Must have qualified at the Aptitude Test followed by a Viva- Voce examination to be conducted by the Department.
• Admission to PGDCA (Vocational) shall be made on the basis of a written aptitude Test (60 marks) followed by a Viva – voce examination (40 marks) both to be conducted by Department.
• Reservation of seats for admission shall be provided as per reservation rules of the Patna University for various categories. Caste certificates issued by the district Magistrate (DM) or SDO of the district in which the candidate permanently resides is acceptable. Candidates applying for admission under reserved seats must enclose the Cast Certificate with the application forms at the time of submission of application forms. Caste certificate issued by the BDO / Welfare Officer is not acceptable.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Selection will be made on the basis of performance in the entrance test comprising of a written test followed by interview conducted by Department of Statistics, Patna University.

THE ENTRANCE TEST

• Entrance Test for admission to PGDCA course comprises of one written test followed by interview. The written test will be of one and a half hours duration. There will be questions on Logical and Mathematical ability, General awareness, English and Fundamentals of Computer with multiple choices.
•  Candidates will be required to answer all questions on a separate answer sheet attached with the question booklet. All objective type questions will carry equal marks. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect answer. Answers are to be marks using HB pencil only.
• There will be one essay type question on current developments related to computers / IT. Answer may be presented either in English or Hindi.
•  The question paper will be provided in English only.
DISPLAY OF ENTRANCE TEST RESULT

The result of the written test, schedule of Viva – Voce examination and selection list will be displayed on the department notice board.

THE ADMISSION

1. ADMISSION SCHEDULE

Students selected must take admission as per the schedule displayed on the department notice board failing which the claim for admission will be forfeited.

1. FOREIGN NATIONALS AND NRIs

Children of foreign nationals and / or NRIs with proper documents are eligible for admission to the course. The written entrance test may be waived for such candidates, however they must appear before the interview board. The course fee for seats under this quota is $ 1200 per annum.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED at the time of admission.

• Mark sheet of qualifying examination.
• School Leaving Certificate (SLC) / College Leaving Certificate (CLC).
• Migration Certificate.
• Stamp size photograph – 3 copies.
• Caste Certificate in original (issued by DM/SDO).

Computer professionals form an integral part of the human resources of any organization. After the successful completion of this programme, students could get a wide range of jobs to choose from the different sectors, be it a very large MNC, a small software firm, a private sector or PSU or a governmental organization or Banks. They are in great demand as most of the companies and firms these days want to hire highly skilled professionals having background of computers and IT. They can also establish their own Software Development firm and / or Electronic Data Processing centers and / or Desk Top publishing centers. The can work from home too for any company through WAN.

There is a great scope for higher studies after completion of the course. Students may join MCA / MIT/MBA or M.Sc. in Computer Science / M.Sc. in Information Technology, etc. conducted by any recognized University.
